Exploring The Outdoor Campus of Sioux Falls, SD

outdoor campus sioux falls sd.

The Outdoor Campus is managed and operated by the South Dakota Fish, Game & Parks. The campus is your ticket to outdoor adventures. It provides classes and events on a wide range of outdoor activities.

Want to learn to fish, kayak, forage, or cook over a campfire ? The outdoor campus can help. Classes are available for even the youngest visitors with programs offered for ages 3 and up. I recommend signing up for classes as soon as they open though since most fill up quickly.

In addition to a wide variety of classes the campus offers miles of hiking trails and an indoor museum that showcases South Dakota’s outdoor life.

When I visited I had the opportunity to make smacos over a campfire. Basically, a smore + peanut butter (minus the graham cracker) wrapped in a tortilla shell, wrapped in aluminum foil, tossed in the campfire, cook for 2 minutes. It is all kinds of ooey gooey goodness and is now a campfire staple for our family.

Trails at the Outdoor Campus

There are 3 different trails at the campus each about 3/4 mile long.  Be sure to visit the butterfly garden during your visit.

Also note that there is no swimming or fishing in the ponds. Remember to take water wiht you while you’re out hiking.

This is a place that I would visit again and again if I lived in the area. Whether you are a visitor or resident you’ll want to spend some time exploring the Outdoor Campus in Sioux Falls.
